If You Are Stopped By The Police
When you see the flashing red lights in your rearview mirror, pull over to
the right as quickly and as safely as possible.
Turn on your interior dome light, roll down your window an inch
or more and wait for the officer. Don’t start rummaging through
your glove box for documents. Wait for the officer to ask for them.
Always be polite and courteous to the officer, even if he is not
to you. Speak clearly and deliberately. Remember that from the moment
the officer arrives at your window he is looking for indications
that you are under the influence of alcohol including slurred speech,
and fumbling for documents.
Do not joke with the officer under any circumstances. You should
assume that anything you say to the officer can and will be used
against you. Under the law, you do not have to answer any questions
or take any tests asked of you by the officer.
If you or a loved one is in need of legal assistance, call DerGarabedian, Nathan, Marino & Rodriguezat (516) 766-1619 or schedule a consultation
and review. The initial consultation is free of charge.
